Nan Turns 90!

My Nan turned 90 on Saturday. There was a HUGE party for her with family and friends, up in Heber, Utah. It was in her words (and I quote), "So special!" And it really was!

My Nan is the best woman that has ever lived. No, I am not exaggerating. She is phenomenal, and if you spend one minute with her, you would know it instantly. Being with Nan is like being with an angel. I am so glad she is my Nan forever.
One of her friends sent her 90 roses. They were so beautiful!

Though she has arthritis in her hands, she spends her time practicing the organ, sewing bandages for leprosy colonies, knitting hats for the Young Women in her ward, writing birthday cards to every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She builds puzzles, plays dice with friends, comforts everyone who comes her way, and she gives LOTS of hugs. Nan is always ready to play. She has a table in front of her special chair, and if you are there, you are playing a game with her -- while she compliments your every move. She is always up to something, and she is as sharp as she ever was. (She was the Valedictorian of her high school.) Everyone refers to her as "My Nan" because we all feel like she is our own. She treats us all like we are her favorite. She is never cross or angry, and is always thinking of others. And if you are in her home and you are hungry it is, "Your own darn fault."

Nan is loved by all. She is the Queen of love.
Little moments like this were so sweet to behold.

I loved seeing all the scooters, canes, and walkers. Her friends coming to wish her a Happy Birthday.
Seeing all the people whose lives have been touched for good by Nan was inspiring. 70 years ago she was a new mother cuddling her first child, my mother. I am sure then -- with sleepless nights, and tremendous struggles -- she could not have imagined the number of people that would come into existence by way of her magnificent act of motherhood. One person can change the future, especially a mother. Nan is the perfect example of that! ALL those people there, because of HER! Amazing!
Nan, I love you SO MUCH. You will always be in my heart. And your sweet words will always echo in my ears. You have a beautiful legacy. You will always be remembered. Forever and ever. I am so glad I am yours!

Happy Birthday!
